Tobin M. Richter
Mr. Richter is a litigator concentrating in the areas of commercial disputes, torts, real estate, ERISA (mental health issues), land use, zoning and appellate practice. Mr. Richter is also experienced in historic preservation, corporate and real estate transactions, and trademarks.
Representative Matters
- Represented the Public Building Commission of Chicago in construction and lien litigation.
- Represented plaintiffs in litigation including: commercial property foreclosures; a suit to bar airing of a national television talk show until a mistreated guest was given editorial control; suits to redress property damage caused by adjacent construction; legal malpractice; and, numerous other matters.
- Represented defendants in a defamation case involving Internet postings; defended the owner of a downtown office building against improper foreclosure; defended a debt guarantor against improper claims on the guaranty, Citicorp Savings v. Ascher, 196 III. App. 3d 570 (1st Dist., 1990); and, defended numerous businesses in other disputes.
- Represented a health care provider in ERISA claims against insurers and CHAMPUS for payment of mental health care, Camelot Care Centers v. Planters, 836 F.Supp.545 (USDC ND 1993).
- Defended tort suits involving claims of negligence and premises liability arising out of railroad, automobile and workplace accidents.
- Registered trademarks, including overcoming examiner’s objections, for a national PBS television series.
- Conducted numerous commercial real estate sales and purchases.
